Labourer Remanded for Threatening to Kill Mother Over Plantain Dispute

Service Machinery Ghana MD Remanded in $1 Million Fraud Case Amidst Wave of Legal Rulings Nationwide

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Emmanuel Ahadzie, the 51-year-old Managing Director of Service Machinery Ghana Limited, for his alleged involvement in a high-value fraud scheme. Ahadzie is accused of conspiring with two accomplices—Guo Nian Ming and Akponu Kwaku Joseph, both currently at large—to defraud the company's CEO, Moses Kwame Williams, of $1 million. The prosecution alleges that the funds were collected under the false pretense of supplying six heavy-duty sino trucks that were never delivered. Investigations suggest Ahadzie directed the CEO to deposit the money into an account belonging to Guo Nian Ming, leading to charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses. Ahadzie's plea has not yet been taken, and he is scheduled to return to court on October 13, 2026. In a separate criminal proceeding, the Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced 26-year-old Joseph Quaye to four years of hard labor for threatening to kill his mother. The incident, which occurred in June 2026, reportedly stemmed from a heated argument regarding Quaye's personal hygiene, during which he threatened to stab his mother with a knife and scissors. Quaye, who was already under investigation in connection with a stolen firearm, pleaded guilty to charges of threat of death. Meanwhile, in the Ashanti Region, the Nkawie Circuit Court has imposed a total fine of GH"12,000 on two 20-year-old friends, Kwame Asare and Bismark Kobby. The pair pleaded guilty to stealing items valued at GH"144,000 from a local businessman, citing poverty as the motivation for their actions; they face three months in prison should they fail to pay the fine. Adding to the week's legal and social headlines, a woman involved in the alleged sexual assault of an Uber driver named Kwame has sparked public debate after defending her actions during a radio interview on Kasapa FM. Representing a group of three women accused in the case, she claimed that a lack of romantic attention from men drove them to commit the acts as a means of seeking fulfillment. The defense, which highlights complex social dynamics and issues of consent, has drawn significant attention as the case progresses through the legal system. These varied cases underscore the ongoing efforts of the Ghanaian judiciary to address a wide spectrum of offenses, from sophisticated corporate fraud to domestic violence and petty theft. While the Accra Circuit Court continues its search for the accomplices in the Service Machinery fraud case, the sentencing of Quaye and the fines levied against Asare and Kobby serve as a reminder of the legal consequences for both violent threats and property crimes. As these cases continue to unfold, they provide a snapshot of the current legal challenges and the judicial response to maintaining public order and corporate integrity across the country.
