Koforidua Technical University (KTU) has marked a significant milestone in its academic history with the graduation of its first-ever batch of Master’s degree holders. The historic ceremony, held in the Eastern Regional capital, saw 112 students receive advanced degrees, signaling a new era for the institution as it transitions from its polytechnic roots into a high-level research and professional training hub. This maiden cohort represents the university's successful expansion into postgraduate education, reflecting a broader national effort to upgrade technical universities to meet global standards.
The graduating class comprised specialists in several critical fields, including Master of Science degrees in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, and Data Science. During his address at the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor John Owusu emphasized that the introduction of these Master's programmes is part of a strategic commitment to producing highly skilled professionals capable of driving innovation in both the public and private sectors. He noted that the curriculum for these programmes was meticulously designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical industry requirements.
Since its establishment in 1997, KTU has evolved significantly, steadily increasing its academic offerings and infrastructure. To support its new postgraduate focus, the university has deepened its international partnerships, which Professor Owusu highlighted as essential for enhancing research output and fostering student mobility. These collaborations are expected to provide students and faculty with exposure to global best practices, ensuring that the research conducted within the university has both local relevance and international impact.
As the university looks toward the future, this first graduation of Master's students serves as a blueprint for further academic expansion. The success of this maiden batch provides the momentum needed for KTU to introduce additional postgraduate and potentially doctoral programmes in the coming years. By strengthening its capacity to offer advanced technical education, Koforidua Technical University is positioning itself as a leader in the development of human capital necessary for Ghana's industrial and technological advancement.
