Residents of Sefwi Asafo in the Western North Region have been left in shock following the discovery of the lifeless body of a young man, identified as Kofi Obed, by the roadside on Tuesday morning. Obed, a resident of Sefwi Afere who was believed to be in his late 20s, was found motionless shortly after he was reportedly involved in a confrontation at a local place of worship. The incident has sparked significant concern within the community, as the circumstances surrounding his sudden demise remain shrouded in mystery.
According to local reports, the sequence of events began earlier that morning when Obed allegedly attempted to launch an attack on members of the Continuation Church during a gathering. The motives behind the attempted assault are not yet known, but vigilant community members and church congregants managed to intervene and apprehend him before any serious harm could be inflicted. Witness accounts suggest that after his apprehension, there was an expectation among the public that Obed would be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for formal questioning and processing.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when, instead of being safely transported to a police station, Obed was later discovered dead by the side of the road. The transition from his apprehension by locals to his discovery as a corpse has raised urgent questions regarding the level of force used during his citizen’s arrest and whether other factors contributed to his death. At this stage, authorities have not confirmed the presence of visible injuries, leaving the community and the deceased's family awaiting official word from forensic investigators.
The Ghana Police Service has since commenced a dual investigation, looking into both the initial report of the attempted attack on the church and the subsequent death of the suspect. The body of Kofi Obed has been transported to the St John of God Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a scheduled post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Local authorities have urged the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation or further violence as they work to establish the facts behind this unsettling series of events.
