Residents of the Adevukope Electoral Area in the Ketu North Municipality have been thrown into a state of panic following the discovery of a brazen grave robbery at the local cemetery. On the morning of June 10, unknown individuals vandalized multiple graves, successfully exhuming and stealing the body of 67-year-old Esi Havor Deku. The incident has left the community in shock, raising serious concerns regarding the security of burial grounds and the motives behind such sacrilegious acts.
The crime was reported to the Weta Police Station by the Assembly Member for the Adevukope Electoral Area, Johnson Dotsey Mensah. According to Mensah, he was alerted to the vandalism around 6:30 AM. Upon reaching the cemetery, it was discovered that the perpetrators had targeted the final resting places of two recently deceased individuals. While the grave of 93-year-old Akakpo Agbobli was partially disturbed, his coffin and remains were found to be intact. However, the grave belonging to Esi Havor Deku was completely breached, with her coffin found open and her remains missing.
District Crime Officer ASP Emmanuel Habada led a police team to the scene to initiate a formal investigation. The physical evidence at the site confirmed the severity of the desecration; investigators found remnants of clothing near the open coffin, but the body had been removed entirely. The police are currently working to determine the timeline of the exhumation and are looking for leads that could point toward the identities of the suspects involved in this disturbing crime.
As the investigation continues, the local community remains on edge, with many calling for increased security measures at the Adevukope Cemetery. The incident highlights a troubling trend of grave vandalism that often distresses families and violates traditional burial rites. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and provide any relevant information to the Weta Police Station to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice and recovering the stolen remains.
