The National Sanitation Exercise received a significant boost this week as Karpowership Ghana and CalBank PLC mobilized resources to support municipal assemblies in the Western and Greater Accra regions. Both companies provided essential sanitation equipment and deployed staff members to participate directly in community clean-up and desilting activities. These efforts align with a government-led nationwide initiative aimed at improving environmental health, enhancing public sanitation, and mitigating the perennial impact of seasonal flooding in urban centers.
In the Western Region, Karpowership Ghana donated a comprehensive suite of sanitation tools to the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA). The donation, which included wheelbarrows, refuse bins, rakes, and shovels, was part of the company’s broader commitment to community well-being and sustainable development. Sandra Amarquaye, Karpowership’s Corporate Communications Manager, emphasized that the company prioritizes environmental protection as a core pillar of its social investment. Abdul Majeed Dukurgu, the Municipal Chief Executive for EKMA, commended the partnership, noting that such corporate social responsibility is vital for maintaining environmental cleanliness and supporting local government initiatives.
Simultaneously, CalBank PLC focused its efforts on the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly in Accra, providing critical cleaning materials to assist with ongoing sanitation efforts and flood recovery. The bank donated items such as wheelbarrows and protective gloves, while its employees joined community members in desilting drains to ensure the free flow of water. CalBank’s participation highlights its strategy of integrating environmental sustainability into its corporate operations, ensuring that the bank plays an active role in addressing the immediate social needs of its host communities.
These collaborative efforts between major corporate entities and local authorities underscore the increasing importance of public-private partnerships in addressing Ghana’s infrastructure and sanitation challenges. By providing both the logistical equipment and the human capital required for large-scale cleaning, these companies are helping to foster a culture of environmental responsibility. As the National Sanitation Exercise continues, such contributions are expected to play a crucial role in long-term flood prevention and the promotion of healthier living conditions across the country.
