Sammi Awuku claims NPP will expose 35 NDC scandals before 2028 elections

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has announced that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has identified approximately 35 scandals involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which it intends to reveal ahead of the 2028 general elections. These disclosures are expected to be released periodically as part of the NPP's strategy to highlight alleged governance failures under the current John Mahama administration. Awuku’s remarks suggest an early escalation of political tension as the opposition party prepares its campaign narrative for the next electoral cycle. Among the specific allegations raised by Awuku is a purported scandal involving visa arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The MP accused several NDC regional executives of acting as intermediaries for government appointees to collect money from individuals wanting to travel abroad for the tournament. He claimed that these party officials were instructed to facilitate payments from visa applicants, an arrangement he characterized as a significant breach of administrative ethics and financial propriety. Beyond the World Cup allegations, Awuku directed his attention toward the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding full transparency regarding the recent evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from South Africa. He specifically called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to publish the invoices and total costs associated with the operation. Awuku noted that his demand for accountability mirrors the transparency he advocated for while the NPP was in opposition, asserting that the public has a right to know how state resources are being utilized. These planned revelations are set to form a cornerstone of the NPP's critique of the NDC government leading into 2028. While the NDC has not yet issued a formal rebuttal to the specific claims regarding the visa arrangements or the broader list of 35 scandals, the MP's statements indicate a focused effort to challenge the government's integrity on financial and administrative matters. The rollout of these allegations is likely to intensify parliamentary and public debate over the coming months.
