Greater Accra Leads in Gun Amnesty Surrenders Ahead of January 2026 Deadline

The Greater Accra Region has emerged as the leading area for firearm surrenders under Ghana's Gun Amnesty Programme, according to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA). This initiative, which allows individuals to voluntarily hand over unregistered or illicit firearms without the risk of prosecution, is gaining traction as the January 15, 2026, deadline approaches. Dr. Adam Bonaa, NACSA's Executive Secretary, highlighted the significance of community involvement, particularly with the Muslim community, which is actively engaged in the program under the support of the National Chief Imam, who serves as an ambassador for the initiative. The police have reassured the public that those who surrender their weapons will not face arrest, encouraging widespread participation before the deadline.
