The Governing Board of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), led by Chairman Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow, has established a new strategic direction focused on modernisation, resource mobilisation, and financial sustainability. During a recent high-level meeting, the Board prioritised the enhancement of editorial and multimedia capabilities to ensure the agency remains competitive in the evolving media landscape. A significant component of this transformation includes the ongoing renovation of the GNA Head Office, a project funded by the African Development Bank that will equip the agency with state-of-the-art infrastructure and multimedia tools to improve service delivery and maintain its public-service mandate.
In a separate but equally significant development for national security, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has promoted four officers for their bravery in dismantling a violent robbery syndicate in the Upper West Region. General Sergeant Kwashe Divine Mort, Detective Sergeant Salifu Ishmeal Allketisiwin, General Corporal Ernest Ameyaw Akunfi, and General Corporal John Bekaar Vitus were recognised for their dedication in identifying and arresting members of a gang that had been terrorising the Wa West District and Wa Municipality. The gang, known for using machetes in violent assaults, was linked to the theft of approximately GH¢25,344, leaving local communities in a state of constant fear before the police intervention.
Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozing presented Awards of Honour to the officers, emphasizing that effective crime-fighting requires deep collaboration between security agencies and the public. This sentiment aligns with the GNA Board’s broader goals of fostering innovation and strategic partnerships to address contemporary challenges. While the police continue to track two suspects who remain at large, the GNA is moving forward with plans to increase internal revenue through premium news products and expanded governmental support. Together, these initiatives represent a concerted effort across various state sectors to enhance institutional integrity, public safety, and professional excellence in Ghana.
