Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has officially announced the implementation of a water rationing program targeting several key municipalities in the Greater Accra Region. The utility provider identified Kpone-Katamanso, Ashaiman, Tema East, and Tema West as the primary areas to be affected by the upcoming schedule. This decision comes as a strategic response to persistent supply challenges that have hindered consistent water delivery to these densely populated communities in recent times.
To manage the distribution process effectively, GWL plans to divide the affected neighborhoods into three distinct zones. This zoning strategy is designed to ensure a more equitable sharing of the available water resources across the designated areas. By segmenting the districts, the company aims to provide a predictable and managed schedule for residents who have been grappling with unreliable access to potable water, allowing for better household planning and resource conservation.
The rationing exercise is scheduled to commence within the next two weeks. According to the company, the temporary measure is a necessary step to stabilize the distribution network and address the ongoing supply issues that have impacted service delivery. While the program is expected to regulate usage, it also serves as a tactical intervention to manage the current limitations of the water infrastructure serving the Kpone and Tema enclaves.
Residents and businesses within the impacted zones are encouraged to prepare for the change in supply patterns as the utility company works toward a more permanent resolution of the current bottlenecks. GWL has indicated that the ultimate goal of this management plan is to restore a more reliable and sustainable water supply for all stakeholders in the long term, eventually mitigating the erratic service that has characterized the region's water access lately.
