Ghana’s education sector is receiving a significant boost through the collaborative efforts of traditional authorities and corporate organizations. From the inauguration of advanced STEM facilities to the provision of essential boarding equipment, these partnerships are addressing critical infrastructure gaps across the country. This surge in private-sector and traditional involvement highlights a growing commitment to enhancing learning environments for students, effectively supplementing the national development agenda under the administration of President John Mahama.
In a major contribution to student welfare, Ashanti Foam Factory Limited (Ashfoam) has donated 600 mattresses to the newly inaugurated female dormitory block at Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School in the Western North Region. The three-storey, 600-bed facility was funded by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and officially handed over in November 2025. Presenting the items to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation at Manhyia Palace, Ashfoam’s leadership emphasized the company’s 50-year commitment to educational development and youth welfare. Foundation representatives praised the gesture as a timely intervention that ensures the dormitory is fully equipped for immediate student occupancy.
Meanwhile, digital education has taken center stage in the Ashanti Region with the MTN Ghana Foundation’s inauguration of a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning centre at the Asafo M/A Basic School. The GH¢946,189.71 facility is equipped with 35 all-in-one computer workstations and specialized robotics training equipment. This project, which originated from concerns about the school’s outdated ICT infrastructure, aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators. MTN Ghana officials noted that the center is part of a broader mission to foster digital inclusion, providing students with the tools necessary to compete in a modern economy.
Complementing these large-scale corporate investments, community-led initiatives are also gaining momentum. In Badukrom, the newly crowned Development Queenmother, Nana Aba Kum I, has launched a campaign to construct the community’s very first basic school. Through the newly formed Nana Aba Kum Foundation, she is mobilizing resources from the government, NGOs, and local residents to prioritize education and child welfare. During her coronation, she stressed that the successful implementation of such vital projects requires unity and collective effort, signaling a new era of grassroots development for the area.
These diverse interventions reflect a unified front in tackling the multi-faceted challenges facing the education sector. Whether through high-tech learning labs or basic classroom construction, the synergy between traditional rulers like the Asantehene and Nana Aba Kum I, and corporate entities like MTN and Ashfoam, is creating tangible change. As these projects move from inauguration to full operation, they serve as a model for how non-governmental stakeholders can effectively contribute to human capital development and the long-term prosperity of Ghanaian youth.
