The Ghana Police Service has recorded significant successes in its ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and organized theft, following two major operations in the Ashanti and Upper West Regions. In the Asokore Mampong Municipality, police swift response led to the apprehension of a 19-year-old robbery suspect, while a separate anti-robbery operation in the Upper West Region successfully dismantled a motorbike theft syndicate, resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of 17 stolen vehicles. These actions reflect the heightened security posture under President John Mahama's administration as police intensify efforts to protect citizens and their property. In the Ashanti Region, officers from the Regional Command arrested 19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha in connection with a violent robbery at Asabi. The incident, which occurred on July 21, 2026, left a victim unconscious with machete wounds after being robbed of his mobile phone. Following a distress call, police units discovered the victim and tracked Mustapha to a nearby building where he was hiding. A machete and the stolen phone were recovered at the scene. The victim is currently receiving medical attention at KNUST Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment for his injuries. Simultaneously, the Upper West Regional Police Command has dealt a heavy blow to a notorious motorbike theft syndicate. The operation, which began after a July 11 report of a theft at the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa, led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of 17 stolen motorbikes across locations including Wa, Charia, and Hamile. Among those apprehended are Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid, and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the theft and subsequent sale of the vehicles and are assisting with further investigations. The suspects in the Upper West case have been remanded by the Wa Circuit Court and are expected to reappear on August 11, 2026. Police authorities have urged owners of stolen motorbikes to come forward with valid documents to retrieve their property. These successful operations demonstrate the police's commitment to public safety and their proactive approach to dismantling criminal networks across Ghana. Investigation continues into both cases to ensure all associated individuals face the full rigour of the law and to identify further links in the theft syndicate.
