The Ghana Police Service has recorded significant successes in its ongoing fight against organized crime, arresting 11 suspects across two major operations in the Greater Accra and Bono East regions. These intelligence-led interventions resulted in the recovery of GH¢300,000 in stolen cash and the seizure of various firearms and offensive weapons. The arrests highlight an intensified effort by law enforcement to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in highway robberies and illegal landguard activities that have threatened public safety in recent weeks.
In the Bono East Region, police officers apprehended six individuals linked to a brazen highway robbery on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway on July 19, 2026. Following a swift response by a Counter Terrorism Unit, authorities recovered GH¢300,000 that had been stolen during the incident. Investigations revealed that the robbery was an "inside job" orchestrated by the driver of a vehicle transporting the cash. The driver allegedly conspired with five others, including Samad Issahaka and Abdul Sadat Ali, to trail the vehicle and bypass police barriers. Interestingly, the suspects reportedly utilized a toy pistol to execute the heist before fleeing the scene. All six suspects are currently in custody and assisting with further inquiries.
Simultaneously, in the Greater Accra Region, a specialized police operation on July 17, 2026, targeted a suspected criminal cell in Sapeiman Faase. Five individuals—Torgbui Agah Semaglo (50), Shadrach Agah Semaglo (22), William Kweku Sedanu (21), Cyril Kassenu (26), and Kingsford Agah Semaglo (18)—were arrested for their alleged involvement in both armed robbery and landguard activities. During the raid, officers recovered a cache of firearms and offensive weapons. These suspects are believed to be part of a group responsible for terrorizing residents and land developers in the Sapeiman area, an issue that has been a growing concern for local authorities.
The Ghana Police Service has commended the professionalism of the officers involved in these successful operations and emphasized the critical role of intelligence-sharing between the public and law enforcement. These recent arrests serve as a stern warning to criminal elements that the police remain vigilant and committed to maintaining law and order. Authorities continue to encourage members of the public to report suspicious activities in their communities, noting that such collaboration is essential for the effective prevention of crime and the protection of lives and property across the country.
