Community Support Saves Midwife's Life as Medical Fund Covers Surgery Costs

Rebecca Odarquaye, a 36-year-old midwife from Ghana, has received life-saving surgery after her urgent appeal for financial assistance was highlighted by JoyNews. Diagnosed with a life-threatening brain aneurysm, Rebecca faced a daunting medical bill of GH¢210,840, a sum her family could not afford. Public donations raised GH¢17,000, but it was the intervention of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, established by former President John Dramani Mahama, that ultimately covered the full cost of her surgery at Eurocare Hospital. The funds raised from the public will now support her recovery process. Expressing her gratitude, Rebecca is hopeful to return to her vital role in assisting expectant mothers after her recovery.
