The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory warning of intermittent rain and severe thunderstorms across the country. According to the latest forecasts, a system of low clouds over southern Ghana combined with a weak rainstorm moving westward from the northern frontier is expected to trigger varying rainfall intensities. The agency specifically warns of a flash flood risk in low-lying areas as weather patterns fluctuate between heavy downpours and persistent drizzle. With temperatures nationwide expected to range from 29°C to 36°C, the public is urged to stay weather-aware and prepare for sudden atmospheric changes.
In the northern sectors, including regions around Tamale, GMet predicts that thunderstorms and rain will be particularly active in the central and western parts, likely persisting through the night. The transition and middle belt areas, specifically Kete Krachi and Atebubu, are also forecasted to experience isolated rainfall. While the northern regions deal with more intense storm activity, southern Ghana—including Accra, Cape Coast, and Takoradi—is expected to remain largely cloudy with light rain or intermittent drizzles. These conditions are anticipated to transition into widespread mist and fog by the early morning hours, significantly impacting visibility for commuters and residents in forest and mountainous areas.
Beyond terrestrial concerns, the GMet has issued a stern warning regarding maritime safety, noting that sea conditions are expected to be rough. Marine operators and those involved in coastal activities are advised to exercise extreme caution during this period. For motorists, the combination of early morning fog and afternoon rain presents hazardous driving conditions; the agency recommends reduced speeds and high vigilance due to poor visibility. The general public is encouraged to carry umbrellas and take necessary safety precautions to mitigate the impact of the inclement weather as these conditions are expected to persist across much of the country into the coming days.
