Ghana’s Governance Reforms and Legal Landmarks: Navigating Legislative Shifts, Economic Recovery, and Growing Labour Unrest

Ghana is currently at a pivotal crossroads in its democratic journey, as the government and various stakeholders push for major reforms intended to restore public trust and enhance institutional transparency. Central to this shift is a landmark constitutional case before the Supreme Court known as the 'Anti-Delegate System' (ADS). Supported by the Attorney-General’s Department, the case seeks to grant all registered political party members the right to vote in primaries, potentially dismantling the current delegate-based system. This legal movement coincides with calls from Parliament to strengthen the Open Government Partnership (OGP), with MPs Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba and Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah emphasizing that accountability is essential to reconnecting national reforms with citizen participation.
