The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has entered into a strategic partnership with UNESCO to revolutionize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country. Through a recently signed Letter of Intent in Accra, the two organizations have committed to expanding artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy programs within vocational institutions. This initiative is designed to align Ghana’s educational output with the rapidly evolving demands of the global digital economy, ensuring that graduates are prepared for the modern workforce and the complexities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
GETFund Administrator Richard Kwasi Ofori Adjei underscored the urgency of this intervention, noting that the swift pace of industrial technology changes necessitates immediate action to equip the youth with relevant digital competencies and AI knowledge. The partnership focuses on several key pillars, including the modernization of educational infrastructure, the comprehensive updating of TVET curricula, and intensive capacity-building programs for educators. UNESCO’s Country Representative, Edmond Moukala, emphasized that the integration of AI must be both responsible and ethical, highlighting technology as a primary driver for innovation and effective career preparation in the classroom.
Beyond technical instruction, the collaboration aims to create a more robust bridge between academic training and industry requirements. By providing students with enhanced career preparation and fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurship, the initiative seeks to address youth unemployment and drive broader socio-economic development. Stakeholders believe that by embedding AI knowledge and advanced digital skills into the TVET sector, Ghana is positioning its next generation of professionals to lead in the digital era, ensuring they are competitive both locally and internationally.
