His Royal Majesty Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has officially pledged his full support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as MahamaCares. During a courtesy visit by a delegation led by the Fund's Administrator, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and Board Member Dr. Adu Agyei Gyamfi, the monarch described the initiative as a vital lifeline for Ghanaians suffering from chronic, non-communicable diseases. The meeting highlighted the Fund's commitment to ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied life-saving medical treatment due to financial constraints, particularly for conditions requiring specialized care such as cancer, kidney failure, and cardiovascular diseases.
To solidify the relationship between the Fund and the Ga State, the GMTF delegation presented 100 boxes of bottled water and 100 boxes of assorted soft drinks to support the Homowo Festival celebrations. The Ga Mantse emphasized that a nation's health is its greatest asset and vowed to use his influence to advocate for the Fund's mission across his jurisdiction. He urged traditional leaders nationwide to serve as bridges between government health initiatives and local communities, ensuring that eligible patients are aware of the financial assistance available for treatments like chemotherapy and dialysis.
The financial sustainability of the Fund received a significant boost with a GH₵1 million donation from BOSTenergies. Presenting the contribution, Managing Director Afetsi Awoonor challenged other corporate entities in Ghana to step up their social responsibility efforts by investing in the domestic healthcare sector. Administrator Obuobia Darko-Opoku expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that such private-sector contributions are tax-deductible and essential for alleviating the financial burden on families facing costly medical interventions that might otherwise require expensive travel abroad.
While praising the establishment of the Trust Fund, the Ga Mantse also called for a holistic approach to healthcare that extends beyond immediate financial aid. He urged for increased investment in medical research and the improvement of post-treatment care systems to ensure long-term recovery and better health outcomes for all citizens. As the GMTF continues to mobilize public and private sector support, the focus remains on building a resilient healthcare delivery system that prioritizes specialized care and removes socio-economic barriers to health equity in Ghana.
