Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II Pledges Support for MahamaCares Initiative to Combat Chronic Diseases

His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has officially pledged his support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as MahamaCares. During a courtesy call by a delegation from the Fund, the Ga Mantse described the initiative as a vital intervention for improving access to specialized healthcare across the nation. The endorsement marks a significant collaboration between the traditional leadership of the Ga State and the government's healthcare agenda, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on citizens requiring life-saving treatments.

Led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the delegation introduced the MahamaCares framework, which focuses on providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Beyond direct patient support, the Fund is actively investing in the procurement of modern medical equipment and the specialized training of healthcare professionals. Key infrastructure projects highlighted during the meeting include the ongoing refurbishment of the cardiology center at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the construction of new medical centers at various other healthcare facilities.

In his remarks, the Ga Mantse commended the Fund's achievements and emphasized that quality healthcare is a fundamental pillar of national development. He specifically advocated for increased investment in medical research and the improvement of post-surgery care protocols to ensure long-term patient recovery. The King vowed to leverage his influence to garner broader community and institutional support for the Fund, ensuring that its benefits reach the most vulnerable populations who face significant financial barriers to medical care.

To further demonstrate the spirit of partnership and in observance of the Homowo Festival, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund presented 100 boxes of bottled water and assorted soft drinks to the Ga Mantse and his traditional council. This gesture underscored the Fund's commitment to respecting cultural heritage while pursuing its mission of health equity. As the initiative continues to expand, the support from the Ga State is expected to bolster public confidence and participation in the government's efforts to modernize the Ghanaian healthcare system.
