The African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) has officially invested Mr. Frank B. Adu Jnr, the former Managing Director and CEO of CalBank, as its first Chancellor. During the investiture ceremony held in Accra on September 18, 2026, Mr. Adu Jnr articulated a comprehensive five-point vision designed to reposition the institution as a leader in a technology-driven global economy. This milestone follows the university’s attainment of a presidential charter in December 2024, marking its transition into a fully autonomous, degree-awarding institution. The ceremony was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, traditional authorities, and the academic community. In his inaugural address, Mr. Adu Jnr called for a significant transformation in the university’s educational model, emphasizing the necessity of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy across all curricula. His five-point agenda focuses on digital transformation, deep industry involvement in education, ethical leadership, the establishment of a robust alumni network, and the achievement of long-term financial sustainability. He advocated for an industry-embedded model where experienced professionals actively participate in curriculum development, ensuring that graduates possess the practical skills required by the modern workforce. Mr. Adu Jnr specifically highlighted the importance of data analytics and responsible journalism, noting that the university must adapt to an AI-driven landscape to remain relevant. The government, represented by Dr. Emmanuel Newman from the Ministry of Education, lauded the appointment, noting that Mr. Adu Jnr’s extensive background in business and finance would provide the strategic leadership necessary for AUCB’s growth. Dr. Newman encouraged the university to prioritize research and cross-sector partnerships, while traditional leader Nii Tetteh Dza Nyomo II emphasized the role of the Chancellor in balancing modern education with cultural preservation and practical problem-solving. Stakeholders noted that while the university possesses land for future physical expansion, the immediate priority under the new Chancellor’s leadership will be leveraging digital channels and online education to drive institutional growth. This strategic focus aims to ensure that AUCB, which evolved from the African Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), remains a center of excellence for communications and business education across the continent.
