Emmanuel Kwaku Amanor, a 19-year-old suspected robber, has been hauled before a court after he was accidentally shot by his own accomplice during a failed robbery attempt at the Agbogba Junction Filling Station. The incident, which occurred on June 12, 2026, saw Amanor abandoned at the scene by his fellow conspirators after a firearm was accidentally discharged, striking him in the thigh. Following his arrest and subsequent medical treatment, the teenager now faces multiple felony charges as authorities intensify their search for his fleeing accomplices.
According to the prosecution, Amanor conspired with two others, identified as Eugene Kwabena Kweisi and Isalah Kwesi Nartey, to rob the filling station at gunpoint. Armed with a pump action gun and machetes, the trio moved to execute the heist under the cover of darkness. However, the operation turned chaotic when Kweisi's weapon accidentally discharged while they were attempting to carry out the robbery. Realizing the severity of the injury and the risk of capture, Kweisi and Nartey fled the scene, leaving the wounded 19-year-old to face the police alone. Law enforcement later retrieved several weapons and other items used during the attempted crime as evidence.
Amanor appeared in court alongside his mother, Faustina Deyon, who has been charged with harbouring a criminal. While Amanor faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery, his mother’s involvement stems from allegations of providing refuge to her son to evade arrest following the incident. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges. The presiding judge has remanded Amanor into custody, while his mother was granted bail, and the case has been adjourned to September 14, 2026, for a Case Management Conference.
The Ghana Police Service continues its investigation into the matter, with efforts focused on apprehending Kweisi and Nartey, who remain at large. This case highlights the increasing frequency of violent crime involving young adults and the resulting legal consequences for family members who assist them in evading justice. Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the two remaining suspects as they seek to conclude the investigation.
