A 19-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Kwaku Amanor, has been brought before the court following a failed robbery attempt at the Agbogba Junction Filling Station, where he was accidentally shot by his own accomplice. The incident, which occurred on June 12, 2026, saw Amanor abandoned at the scene by his fellow conspirators after a firearm was discharged unintentionally during the heist. He now faces serious charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery as the judicial process begins.
According to police reports, Amanor was part of a three-man gang including Eugene Kwabena Kweisi and Isalah Kwesi Nartey. The group arrived at the filling station armed with a pump-action gun and machetes, intending to rob the facility at gunpoint. However, the operation took a disastrous turn for the suspects when Kweisi’s weapon discharged accidentally, striking Amanor in the thigh. Realizing the severity of the injury and the imminent risk of capture, Kweisi and Nartey fled the scene, leaving their wounded companion behind. Amanor was subsequently apprehended by the police and reportedly admitted to his involvement in the attempted crime during investigations.
Beyond the primary suspect, the legal proceedings have also entangled Amanor’s mother, Faustina Deyon. She has been charged with harboring a criminal, based on allegations that she provided refuge to her son despite his involvement in the violent crime. During their recent arraignment, both Amanor and Deyon pleaded not guilty to all charges. While the court has ordered that Amanor be remanded in custody, his mother was granted bail as the case proceeds.
The case has been adjourned until September 14, 2026, for a Case Management Conference. Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has intensified efforts to track down the fleeing accomplices, Kweisi and Nartey, who remain at large. Authorities have already retrieved several weapons and other items used during the robbery attempt to serve as evidence. This botched heist highlights the volatile nature of armed robbery and the continued vigilance of law enforcement in the Agbogba area.
