The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a series of scheduled maintenance works across five administrative regions, leading to temporary power interruptions from Saturday, July 20, through Monday, July 22. The exercise, which spans the Tema, Ashanti, Accra West, Central, and Eastern regions, is part of the company's broader strategy to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity supply for its customers. While the maintenance is intended to bolster the national grid's performance, it necessitates periodic shutdowns that will affect residential and commercial activities in the identified zones.
The maintenance schedule began on Saturday, July 20, with a significant impact on the Central Region, where works affected the entire Cape Coast Metropolis and its surrounding municipalities. On Sunday, July 21, the focus shifted to several communities within the Ashanti, Tema, and Eastern regions. These planned interruptions were designed to allow technical teams to carry out essential upgrades and repairs on distribution infrastructure that cannot be safely performed while the system remains energized.
Further maintenance is slated for Monday, July 22, with the Tema Region expected to experience outages specifically between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. During this period, neighborhoods in the Accra West, Central, and Ashanti regions will also see disruptions. Beyond these scheduled activities, ECG noted that some areas may experience additional unplanned outages due to separate network faults. This distinction is crucial for consumers to understand, as technical teams are working simultaneously to resolve both planned and emergency system requirements.
ECG has issued a formal apology to the public for the inconvenience these power interruptions will cause to domestic and industrial operations. The company has urged residents and business owners in the affected communities to make necessary alternative arrangements and to prepare for the temporary loss of power. By investing in these maintenance protocols, ECG aims to reduce the frequency of future outages and ensure a more stable and efficient energy distribution network across the country in the long term.
