The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially launched the calendar for the 2026 "December in GH" festivities, unveiling a program that includes over 150 events nationwide. Speaking at the launch held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, the Minister revealed that the capital city, Accra, will host more than 100 of these activities. This year’s initiative is organized under the theme "Ghana Welcomes the World Home" and forms a central part of the broader Black Star Experience, aimed at enhancing the nation's cultural representation on the global stage.
During the ceremony, Madam Gomashie emphasized that the annual festivities must provide tangible economic benefits for Ghanaians that extend far beyond entertainment. She highlighted the potential for the tourism and creative sectors to drive job creation and support local businesses. The Minister urged stakeholders to ensure that the true value of the season is measured by the sustainable opportunities it creates for citizens, rather than just the volume of social gatherings.
The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, echoed these sentiments, calling for a more inclusive approach to the festivities. She advocated for the deliberate inclusion of local musicians and creatives in event lineups to ensure that the domestic industry benefits directly from the influx of visitors. A significant addition to this year's calendar is the inaugural African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creatives (AFESTACC), which is expected to be a cornerstone of the 2026 celebrations.
By showcasing Ghana's heritage under the banner of "Ghana to the World," the 2026 campaign seeks to solidify the country's position as a premier cultural tourism destination. The government and the GTA aim to attract a record number of international visitors while fostering a deeper connection between the global diaspora and Ghana’s local creative economy. The diverse lineup of 150 events is designed to promote sustainable growth and cultural pride throughout the end-of-year period.
