Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Afo-Toffey, has provided extensive educational support to 1,000 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students in her constituency. Marking the sixth year of her annual scholarship initiative, the program aims to alleviate the financial strain on families as students begin their secondary education journey. This year’s distribution targeted brilliant but needy students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic progress within the municipality.
The beneficiaries received essential boarding school items, including metal trunks, wooden chop boxes, mattresses, exercise books, and mosquito nets. During the presentation ceremony, Afo-Toffey underscored the transformative power of education, citing her own career as a testament to its value. She emphasized that investing in the youth is a direct investment in the personal and national development of Ghana, particularly for the people of Jomoro, and stated that her goal is to remove every barrier that prevents children from reaching their full potential.
The initiative received strong endorsement from local leaders and education officials. The Paramount Chief of the area, Awulae Kwasi Amakyi III, and the Jomoro Municipal Director of Education both lauded the MP for her consistent dedication to the constituency's educational landscape. The Education Directorate specifically highlighted the timeliness of the support, given the financial challenges many parents face during the admission season, and announced plans to monitor the academic performance of the recipients to ensure the resources are utilized effectively.
Looking ahead, Afo-Toffey pledged to sustain and expand the scholarship program in the coming years, committing to increase the number of beneficiaries beyond current levels. By promising to continue this support regardless of her official tenure, the MP seeks to create a lasting legacy of educational empowerment in Jomoro. This initiative serves as a localized effort to bolster the quality and accessibility of secondary education, contributing to the broader educational goals of the current administration.
