David Beckles Secures Second J60 Accra Boys’ Singles Title with Thrilling Comeback Victory

American teenager David Beckles has successfully clinched the J60 Accra boys’ singles title for the second time, demonstrating remarkable resilience at the National Tennis Centre. In a high-stakes final that tested both stamina and skill, Beckles overcame a difficult start to defeat France’s Antoine Baudot in a three-set thriller. The victory reinforces Beckles' growing reputation on the junior circuit and highlights Accra's increasing prominence as a critical hub for international youth tennis on the continent.

The championship match began with Baudot dominating early play, catching Beckles off-guard to take the first set 6-1. However, the American youngster adjusted his strategy in the second set, utilizing powerful groundstrokes and a more effective service game to level the match with a 6-3 win. The deciding third set saw Beckles maintain his momentum and composure, ultimately securing the title with another 6-3 performance. His path to the final was equally impressive, including a commanding semi-final victory over Ghana’s top prospect, Kingsley Alormenu, whom he defeated 6-0, 6-4.

Hosted at the Accra Sports Stadium’s National Tennis Centre, the tournament was a collaborative effort between the Tennis Foundation Ghana and the Ghana Tennis Federation. The event provided a significant platform for both local and international junior talents to showcase their abilities. The presence of international competitors like Baudot and Beckles alongside local stars such as Alormenu underscores the tournament's success in fostering high-level competition and providing Ghanaian players with much-needed exposure to international standards.

This J60 tournament serves as a precursor to even more intensive competition in the capital city. Accra is now preparing to host a J100 tournament scheduled from September 28 to October 3, which will offer players higher ranking points and further international experience. As the Ghanaian sports landscape continues to grow, such international fixtures are seen as vital for the development of local infrastructure and the nurturing of future athletic talent in line with national development goals.
