Damang Gold Mine Limited, now operated by Engineers and Planners (E&P), has reported the extraction of approximately 12.1 million tonnes of material during its first six months of operation. Following its operational takeover on April 19, 2026, the mine has seen a consistent increase in monthly production, rising from 647,821 tonnes in April to a peak of 3.45 million tonnes in August. Mine Manager Frank Dankyi Agyei confirmed that 60% of the processing plant's feed is currently sourced from fresh material mined from active pits, with the remaining 40% coming from existing stockpiles.
The operational report clarifies the current status of the mine following the expiration of Gold Fields Ghana Limited's lease and a subsequent competitive tender process. Manager Frank Dankyi Agyei addressed claims that the mine was only treating old stockpiles, asserting that active mining is occurring at multiple locations, including the Amoanda and Juno pits. The company has made significant investments in heavy-duty machinery, deploying Liebherr and Hitachi excavators to facilitate a major cutback at the Amoanda Pit. Mechanical engineer Obed Asamoah noted that with the right investment, the mine has the potential to remain operational for at least 15 more years.
In addition to mining activities, management is advancing a major infrastructure agenda, including a planned airport project in the Western Region estimated to cost at least $80 million. Community Relations Manager Ramy Oboro explained that the project will be executed in phases, beginning with land preparation and leveling. The investment is part of a broader commitment to regional development that has already seen the company improve local road networks, which residents say has significantly eased travel to Kumasi.
Community impact remains a focal point of the new management under CEO Ibrahim Mahama. The company has pledged to source 60% of its workforce from the local area and has established a community foundation that will receive a portion of the mine’s gold production to fund development projects. While residents of Subri, Damang, and Huni Valley have expressed appreciation for recent infrastructure improvements, they continue to advocate for expanded employment opportunities, particularly for women and National Service personnel, to ensure the mine's benefits are felt across all demographics of the host communities.
