The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has expressed profound shock and sadness following the sudden passing of Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG). Dr. Bampoe Addo died on August 21, 2026, leaving the public service and organized labor community in a state of mourning. His death comes at a time when he was actively engaged in high-level discussions regarding the future of public sector compensation in Ghana. Just prior to his passing, Dr. Bampoe Addo was a key participant in stakeholder engagements concerning the establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC). The FWSC described his contributions during these sessions as vibrant and impactful, noting that his commitment to the welfare of public servants remained steadfast until his final days. As a formidable advocate for workers' rights, he was recognized for his deep understanding of labor relations and his ability to navigate complex negotiations with both passion and professionalism. The FWSC highlighted that while they often sat on opposite sides of the negotiating table, there was always a foundation of mutual respect between the Commission and the CLOGSAG leader. He was regarded as a significant figure in Ghana’s labor landscape whose influence extended across various sectors of the public service. The Commission emphasized that his legacy would be defined by his tireless pursuit of fair treatment for government employees and his instrumental role in shaping public sector discourse. In a formal statement, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission extended its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Bampoe Addo, his colleagues at CLOGSAG, and the broader organized labor community. The loss of such a seasoned advocate is seen as a major blow to the ongoing dialogue between the government and public service workers. As the nation reflects on his contributions, his absence will be felt in future deliberations over public-sector wages and the implementation of new emolument frameworks.
