Organizers of The Literacy Challenge 2026, Channel One TV and Citi FM, have announced an extension for entry submissions to July 30, 2026. This decision is intended to provide more young students across Ghana with the opportunity to participate in the prestigious annual competition. Aimed at junior high school students aged 11 to 15, the challenge serves as a premier platform to foster critical thinking, writing skills, and literary excellence while tasking the youth to engage with contemporary issues vital to the nation's development.
This year's competition centers on the transformative role of technology, specifically focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Ghanaian education sector. Participants are tasked with writing a formal letter addressed to the Minister of Education, critically analyzing both the benefits and potential drawbacks of integrating AI into the classroom. By focusing on this theme, the competition encourages the youth to research global technological trends and articulate how such advancements can be realistically harnessed to improve learning outcomes in Ghana.
The stakes for the 2026 edition are significant, with the ultimate winner set to receive a grand prize of GH¢10,000 along with a brand-new laptop. The competition is structured in three rigorous stages: an initial nationwide essay evaluation, followed by an aptitude test for the top-performing students, and culminating in a high-stakes grand finale quiz among the finalists. To enter, students must submit their letters via post or deliver them directly to the Channel One TV offices in Accra by the 5:00 p.m. deadline on the new closing date.
Supported by key corporate partners including Prospectus Ghana Limited, SIC Insurance, and Advocate Publishing, The Literacy Challenge remains a cornerstone of educational empowerment in the country. Beyond the financial rewards, the initiative is designed to build confidence and enhance the analytical capabilities of the next generation of Ghanaian leaders. By extending the deadline, the organizers have reaffirmed their commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that logistical constraints do not prevent talented students from across the regions from showcasing their intellectual potential on a national stage.
