An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 36-year-old Chinese businessman Evan Yung into police custody following allegations of a massive theft involving GH₵3 million worth of goods. In a separate law enforcement action on the Accra-Cape Coast highway, police officers at a snap checkpoint in Apam intercepted 14 boxes of undocumented shotgun ammunition, highlighting ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat both high-value property crime and the illicit transport of dangerous materials.
The court heard that Evan Yung allegedly stole 440 bundles of T-shirts from a warehouse located in Fadama on November 11, 2025. The complainant had reportedly entrusted Yung with the management of the facility while traveling to China to care for an ailing mother. Upon the complainant's return, Yung claimed the goods had been sold but failed to provide the proceeds over several weeks. Despite allegedly admitting to the crime during his initial arrest, Yung pleaded not guilty in court. He remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
Meanwhile, in the Central Region, police operations at a checkpoint in Apam led to the arrest of Francis Ampomah. During a routine stop of his Toyota Voxy vehicle, officers discovered 14 boxes of shotgun ammunition for which Ampomah could provide no legal documentation. The seizure occurred on May 27, 2026, as part of heightened security measures on the Accra-Cape Coast highway. Ampomah is currently in custody assisting the police with investigations to determine the origin of the ammunition and the intended destination of the shipment.
These cases underscore the diverse challenges facing Ghanaian law enforcement, ranging from white-collar betrayal and large-scale commercial theft to the physical security risks posed by undocumented weaponry. As the court prepares for the next hearing in the Fadama warehouse case, the police are expected to intensify surveillance on major highways to prevent the movement of illegal items. Both suspects remain in custody pending further legal and investigative developments.
