The Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) has announced a significant shift in its academic curriculum, making Artificial Intelligence (AI) and soft skills training mandatory for all students starting from the next academic year. This strategic move, announced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye during a press soiree, is designed to enhance the employability and competitiveness of graduates within the rapidly evolving global job market. By integrating these critical 21st-century competencies into the core learning experience, the university aims to ensure that every student, regardless of their primary field of study, is equipped with the technological literacy and interpersonal skills demanded by modern employers.
This academic reform is part of a broader, ambitious expansion strategy that seeks to significantly increase the university's footprint and impact. CCTU is currently pursuing an aggressive enrollment campaign with the goal of reaching a student population of 10,000 by the end of this year, and a long-term target of 30,000 students by 2030. To support this growth, the institution is prioritizing a comprehensive digital transformation agenda. This includes the implementation of smart classrooms and blended learning models to modernize the educational experience. Furthermore, the university is actively seeking collaborations with private investors to improve physical infrastructure, particularly in the area of student accommodation.
Beyond its immediate academic goals, CCTU is reinforcing its commitment to community service and national development through targeted outreach programs. The university has detailed plans to provide vocational and technical skills training for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) graduates who are outside the formal education system. In a notable move toward social rehabilitation, CCTU will also extend these training opportunities to inmates at the Ankaful Prisons to improve their post-incarceration employability. By aligning its technological advancement with community-focused initiatives, the university seeks to position itself as a central pillar for socio-economic growth in the Central Region and beyond.
