The Bono Regional Police Command has apprehended nine suspects in connection with a violent armed robbery in Fiapre-Zongo, Sunyani West Municipality, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others injured. The incident, which occurred on August 5, 2026, targeted mobile money vendors and has sparked significant security concerns within the region. Among the deceased was a resident identified as Ibrahim Osei, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet, while a second body found at the scene is believed to be one of the assailants, identified by some witnesses as a suspect known locally as Fulani.

The robbery unfolded when armed men attacked female vendors, including Amina Abu, firing shots indiscriminately to disperse bystanders before fleeing with a sum of money reported to be between GH‵30,000 and GH‵40,000. Victims who sustained gunshot and pellet wounds were rushed to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, where they are currently responding to treatment. Police investigations revealed that the assailants likely utilized a cattle truck to reach the location and facilitate their escape, a detail that proved crucial in the subsequent police operation.

Following a distress call, the Bono Regional Police launched a swift response, collecting forensic evidence and spent bullet casings from the crime scene. The nine arrests made so far represent a significant breakthrough, although authorities have confirmed that efforts to track down additional accomplices are still ongoing. The Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kwasi Asante Boateng, expressed his condolences to the affected families and assured the community that local authorities are working closely with the police to enhance security and restore peace to the area.
