Black Challenge targets victory at 2026 Amputee Football World Cup

Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, has officially declared its goal to win the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico. As the reigning African champions, the squad is entering the tournament with high expectations supported by both the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the technical staff. NPC President Samson Deen confirmed the team’s commitment to securing the global trophy, emphasizing that the players have the potential to deliver a strong performance for the nation and the continent.

The team has been drawn into Group D, where they will compete against Angola, Colombia, and Iraq. Preparations are already underway, with head coach Richard Obeng recently leading a training session at Mensah Sarbah Park involving the full 15-man squad. Obeng reported significant progress in the players' fitness and tactical awareness, stating that the team intends to treat every single match in Mexico with the intensity of a final to ensure they do not fall short of their objectives.

To finalize their preparations, the Black Challenge will travel to Turkey for an intensive training camp before heading to the tournament in Mexico. This strategic camp is designed to sharpen the team’s competitive edge and provide a focused environment for tactical drills. By combining their status as African champions with a rigorous preparation phase, the team aims to make a significant impact on the world stage and bring further honor to Ghanaian sports.
