Ben Abdallah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, has commissioned a technical feasibility assessment for the construction of a footbridge at the Aboabo-Airport Roundabout. This directive follows a tragic road accident that resulted in the deaths of four pupils from the Institute of Islamic Studies. The MCE announced the initiative during a visit to the bereaved families, where he expressed his condolences and emphasized the urgent need for permanent safety infrastructure in the area.
The proposed project will require specialized input from road engineers, who are tasked with evaluating the site to determine the most effective design for the crossing. Recognizing that engineering solutions take time, Alhassan confirmed that the Assembly is currently collaborating with the Municipal Education Directorate to implement immediate safety protocols. These interim measures are designed to facilitate safe road crossings for students and other pedestrians at the busy roundabout during the transition period.
In addition to the infrastructure plans, the MCE committed the Asokore Mampong Assembly to covering the medical expenses for the injured children currently receiving treatment at the Manhyia Government Hospital. The call for a footbridge reflects broader public safety concerns regarding the Airport Roundabout, a high-traffic zone where pedestrian-vehicle conflicts have become a significant risk. The technical assessment is expected to provide a roadmap for the project's commencement once the design and funding requirements are finalized.
