Former Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against replacing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their presidential candidate for the upcoming 2028 elections. In a statement, Akyea attributed the party's loss in the 2024 elections to voter fatigue rather than any shortcomings in Bawumia's candidacy. He emphasized that Bawumia managed to secure 41% of the votes under challenging circumstances, indicating a solid base of support that the party should build upon. Akyea warned that introducing a new candidate could provide the opposition with an advantage and pose unnecessary political risks. The NPP is set to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, with Bawumia among the contenders for the nomination.
