Ashanti Region Woman Arrested for Ear-Biting Assault as Accra Businesswoman Faces Charges for Police Battery and Theft

Recent legal developments in Ghana have seen individuals in both domestic and professional spheres facing serious charges following allegations of assault and theft. From a gruesome physical altercation in the Ashanti Region to a high-stakes court case in Accra involving a businesswoman, these incidents reflect a concerning trend of violence and obstruction of justice. Authorities are now working to navigate conflicting accounts and uphold the law in both cases.
In Barekese, Ashanti Region, the police have taken a woman known as Sister Afia into custody following a violent altercation with her tenant, Yaa Achiaa, on September 3. The dispute reportedly began when Achiaa instructed her daughter to stop playing with the landlord’s children following a previous disagreement. This request sparked a physical confrontation between the two women. According to the victim's daughter, Blessing Osei, the situation escalated until Sister Afia allegedly bit off a portion of Achiaa’s ear. While Achiaa is receiving medical treatment at Barekese Hospital, the police are investigating the incident and considering the conflicting accounts provided by both parties.
Meanwhile, the Accra Circuit Court is presiding over the case of Francisca Elikem Fudji, a 31-year-old businesswoman accused of assaulting a police officer and stealing from her former employer, Jerry Owusu-Brempong. Fudji, who was hired in June 2024 to manage businesses, allegedly failed to provide financial accountability and obstructed the owner from accessing his property. During a police intervention to facilitate the recovery of the property, Fudji and several accomplices reportedly assaulted an officer. She is also accused of demanding GH₵5,000 from the complainant. Fudji has denied the charges and was granted bail in the sum of GH₵200,000 with three sureties.
These two distinct cases reflect broader concerns regarding the methods used to settle disputes in both private and commercial settings across the country. While the Barekese incident highlights the volatility that can arise in landlord-tenant relationships, the Accra case points to the challenges of corporate accountability and the safety of law enforcement officers. As investigations into the ear-biting incident continue and the court proceedings for Fudji advance, these events serve as a stern reminder of the legal consequences awaiting those who resort to violence or illegal obstruction to settle personal or financial scores.
