ARIA Bans AI-Generated Music in Australia as Dutch Football Match Marred by Fan Injuries
•2 min read•2 sources
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has introduced a landmark ban on songs created largely or entirely by Artificial Intelligence to protect the integrity of its music charts. This new code of conduct ensures that chart-eligible releases remain predominantly human-made, specifically requiring human lead vocals and human-written lyrics. While AI technology is still permitted to assist in the production process, ARIA's decision aims to safeguard human artistry against the increasing prevalence of synthetic replacements. The move follows a significant controversy surrounding DJ Josh Fawaz’s cover of Madonna’s 'Like A Prayer,' which performed well on the charts but faced intense backlash once AI involvement was disclosed. This shift toward stricter regulation in the creative arts coincides with growing concerns over public safety and conduct in international sports. During a recent Dutch Eredivisie league match between Feyenoord and SC Cambuur, play was suspended for approximately ten minutes after supporters threw multiple red flares and fireworks onto the pitch. The dangerous incident resulted in several fans suffering from burns, hearing damage, and eye injuries. The chaos caused by the Feyenoord supporters has prompted calls for improved security and oversight within the league to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Both developments highlight a broader global trend toward establishing firmer boundaries within entertainment and public events. Whether addressing the digital disruption of the music industry or the physical dangers of stadium violence, authorities are increasingly forced to implement new rules to protect participants and audiences alike. As ARIA sets a potential global standard for music charts, the Eredivisie incident serves as a stark reminder of the safety challenges that continue to plague professional football, necessitating a renewed focus on regulation and fan responsibility across all sectors of public life.
