Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident on October 2, 2023, in Ogun State, Nigeria, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Joshua, aged 36, sustained minor injuries and was promptly hospitalized. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when Joshua's vehicle reportedly lost control while overtaking a stationary truck, leading to a collision. Preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps suggest that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were significant factors contributing to the crash. Joshua had recently returned to the boxing ring after a hiatus and is scheduled to face Tyson Fury in 2026. An investigation into the accident is currently underway, with authorities emphasizing the dangers of speeding and improper overtaking, which are common causes of fatal accidents in Nigeria.
