The Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, has issued an immediate ban on Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, the Member of Parliament for Sekyere South, from organizing any social events within his jurisdiction. The traditional ruler cited a perceived lack of respect in a formal invitation sent by the lawmaker's office as the primary catalyst for the directive, which effectively halts planned community activities in the area.
The controversy stems from an invitation addressed to the chief regarding the grand finale of the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament, scheduled for October 23, 2026. According to the Agonamanhene, the letter was addressed simply to "The Chief, Agona Traditional Council." Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II expressed significant offense at this phrasing, arguing that it failed to appropriately recognize his established traditional authority and title.
During the announcement of the ban, the chief emphasized that his position has been recognized by various high-profile dignitaries and affirmed through official traditional ceremonies over several years. He noted that the manner in which he was addressed in the invitation was a slight against the stool he occupies. In response to what he characterized as a disregard for established protocols, he has prohibited the MP from holding any further public or social engagements on his lands until further notice.
The directive serves as a stern warning against undermining traditional leadership within the Agona Traditional Area. The chief has signaled that any attempt to defy the ban will be met with further action, leaving the future of the MP’s upcoming football tournament and other constituency outreach programs in uncertainty. As of the time of the announcement, the office of Mavis Nkansah-Boadu had not yet issued a public response to the traditional ruler's decree.
