Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has intensified his commitment to educational development by distributing laptops to newly posted teachers in his constituency. Under his "One Teacher, One Laptop Initiative," a total of 100 laptops were procured to support educators in transitioning to modern, technology-driven teaching methods. During a presentation ceremony in Winneba, 79 teachers received their devices, while the remaining 21 are set to be handed over as the new academic year commences or as the remaining teachers report for duty.
Speaking at the event, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that technology has evolved from a luxury into a fundamental necessity for the teaching profession. He noted that digital tools are now essential for managing online assessments, facilitating lesson planning, and enhancing overall classroom delivery. By providing these resources, the MP aims to ensure that educators in the Effutu constituency are well-equipped to meet the increasing technological demands of the 21st-century classroom, which he believes will ultimately lead to improved educational outcomes for hundreds of students across the district.
The Minority Leader was careful to frame the initiative as a direct response to the professional needs of teachers rather than a political gesture. He acknowledged the significant contributions of teachers to nation-building, despite facing challenges such as inadequate remuneration and high workload pressures. Afenyo-Markin highlighted Winneba’s historical status as a major educational hub in Ghana and pledged to continue supporting the sector through various means, building on his previous efforts which include funding school fees for needy students.
This distribution signifies a localized push toward the broader national goal of integrating technology into every level of education. As Ghana's educational landscape continues to shift toward a more digital framework, such constituency-led initiatives serve as a critical bridge for educators who might otherwise lack access to modern equipment. Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed his long-term dedication to the welfare of teachers and the progress of the Effutu constituency, asserting that an investment in teachers is a direct investment in the future of Ghanaian youth.
