Ebenezer Saka Addo-Mensah, the Managing Director of Saka Homes and an alumnus of Achimota School, has officially broken ground for the construction of a new 250-bed boys' boarding house at his alma mater. The project, valued at GH¢18,702,819.08, represents a landmark private-sector contribution under the Ghana Education Trust Fund’s (GETFund) Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI). The sod-cutting ceremony, held on August 6, underscores a growing trend of alumni-led development aimed at alleviating infrastructure pressures facing Ghana’s leading secondary institutions. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the government's effort to integrate private investment into public education infrastructure. The new facility is designed to be more than just a sleeping area; it will integrate modern dormitories with dedicated recreational spaces and environmentally sustainable design elements. Paul Adjei, the Administrator of GETFund, highlighted that this partnership exemplifies the core objective of the EFPI, which seeks to attract private resources to enhance teaching and learning facilities nationwide. Adjei emphasized that sustainable educational development is best achieved through such strategic collaborations, ensuring that students have access to safe, modern, and conducive learning environments that promote academic excellence and personal growth. Achimota School authorities, including the Headmaster and the Board Chairman, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, noting that the 250-bed addition is critical for maintaining gender balance and accommodating the school's rising enrollment numbers. Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu, who attended the event, reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing educational investments across the country. He noted that while the state continues to expand infrastructure, the involvement of the private sector and organized alumni groups is vital to meeting the evolving needs of the Ghanaian student population and preparing future leaders. This GH¢18.7 million investment by Saka Homes serves as a blueprint for how high-net-worth individuals and corporate entities can directly impact the quality of education in Ghana. As the construction progresses, the project is expected to set a new standard for boarding facilities in the country, blending alumni loyalty with professional construction expertise. The move is anticipated to inspire other alumni networks to take similar steps in supporting their respective schools, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the nation's educational framework.
