Ghanaian Socialite Abu Trica Extradited to US Over Alleged $8m AI-Powered Romance Scam

Frederick Kumi, a prominent Ghanaian social media influencer popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited to the United States to face federal charges for his alleged role in a sophisticated international fraud scheme. According to reports from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Kumi is accused of orchestrating a massive romance scam that defrauded over 80 elderly Americans of more than $8 million. The extradition marks a significant development in a multi-year investigation involving both Ghanaian and U.S. law enforcement agencies into digital financial crimes targeting vulnerable populations.

Prosecutors allege that between April 2023 and November 2025, Kumi and his co-defendant, Daniel Yussif, utilized advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools to facilitate their fraudulent activities. Once trust was established, they reportedly manipulated the victims into sending large sums of money under various false pretenses, including fabricated medical emergencies and other urgent financial needs. Kumi now faces serious legal consequences in the U.S. court system, with charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
