The Minister of Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially launched the 2026 edition of the "December in GH" campaign, setting the stage for a month-long celebration of Ghanaian heritage. Held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, the launch introduced this year's theme, "Ghana to the World: Our Music, Our Culture, Our December." The initiative is scheduled to run from December 1, 2026, to January 3, 2027, aiming to solidify the country's position as a premier global destination for the end-of-year festive season.
As part of the broader Black Star Experience initiative, the campaign is designed to showcase the richness of Ghana’s cultural identity, specifically focusing on music, fashion, and local cuisine. Minister Gomashie highlighted that the programme is not just about festivities but serves as a vital engine for economic growth and tourism development. She emphasized that the campaign provides a platform for both local and international visitors to engage deeply with Ghanaian traditions while creating significant opportunities for businesses within the hospitality and creative sectors.
A key highlight of the 2026 schedule is the introduction of the inaugural African Festival of Arts, Culture, and Creativity (AFESTAC). This new addition to the December calendar is slated to take place from December 9 to December 11, 2026. AFESTAC aims to promote the wider African creative industry, fostering collaboration and showcasing the diverse talents found across the continent. By integrating this festival into the December in GH lineup, the Ministry seeks to broaden the appeal of the campaign beyond national borders.
During the launch, the Tourism Minister urged stakeholders to prioritize the quality of the visitor experience over mere terminology or branding. She encouraged wide participation from all sectors of the creative arts to ensure a diverse and inclusive celebration. With the 2026 campaign now officially underway, the government anticipates that the influx of international tourists will provide a substantial boost to the local economy while projecting Ghana’s vibrant culture onto the global stage.
